Rayburn Aga underfloor heatingRayburn Cookers - practical, aesthetic and they can provide the perfect heat source for your underfloor heating system

Rayburns And Underfloor Heating

Because an underfloor heating system operates on low temperatures (typically between 35°C and 60°C) it is ideal for connecting to alternative heat sources such as solar panels, a heat pump, or even a Rayburn style cooker. These systems can be used in any combination to supplement the output from your boiler and save you even more of your fuel costs.

There are specific models of Rayburn stoves whose flexibility allows them to be used to heat the home. They can be used in conjunction with radiators or with warm water underfloor heating. And with hot-water cylinders they can also provide the domestic hot water requirement. By adding a Rayburn to your home, you not only get an aestheticly pleasing cooker, but you no longer need a seperate boiler as the Rayburn can do it all.

For underfloor heating, it is recommended that a system specifically designed for Rayburns and similar ranges is used. These come supplied with all the controls, thermostats and connections. Because of the low temperatures needed for underfloor heating an extra thermostat and blending valves must be incorporated to reduce the heat destined for the heating pipes. To reduce the temperature using the thermostat on the Rayburn itself would result in insufficient domestic hot water and potential condensation damage to the heat exchanger.

Whatever type of system is used, it must be fully pumped and contain a corrosion inhibitor suitable for the copper heat-exchanger inside your range.

Aga Cookers

Unlike the Rayburn which is a product that can provide heating, cooking and hot water, the Aga was designed as a heat storage cooker. Each part of an Aga has a predetermined heat and can automatically control itself whereas the Rayburn can be manually or electronically turned up and down.

As such Aga cookers will not provide a heat source for your underfloor heating system.
